Netflix's "3 Body Problem" Non-Spoiler Review:
Review: The Three-Body Problem - Ambitious Concept, Mixed Execution"
Source:Netflix
"The Three-Body Problem is an amazing concept, yet not great in execution. As a concept, it deals with too many plots, which looks justified but leaves a hollow feeling.
The plot:
The story starts with an unexplained phenomenon at the cosmic level, which disproves physics, and all the physicists around the world either die or are being hunted.
In between, there is an unexplained video game which allows the remaining physicists to solve the unknown planets' problem and ends with descent into space.
It's too complicated to narrow down, but so is the explanation of things in the series.
The good:
The casting from GOT initially takes you out of their performances, but they soon become the characters they played, and they serve the plot well.
The intricacy of plots and their respective arcs is designed well, and I especially enjoyed solving the problems in the game, and overall, the scenes around the game are the best.
I had an issue with the relationships in the series, and the last emotional moment is the only one that barely made me feel for the character, and I would give it a thumbs up for it.
The constant change of scenery made it refreshing, and the first four episodes kept it at the edge of the seat without revealing much.
I loved the individual concepts of the series, and every plot is interwoven and has its purpose.
The bad:
When I watch an action series, it takes its time to establish the characters before the action starts, and I always thought why don't we start with action, and this series answered the question.
It directly starts with physics being disproved without introducing characters or their relationships.
They were established slowly but not to the point where we care about them. More time is spent on exposition rather than building relationships.
The first unexplained phenomenon is never explained, even Nolan explains the science, even if we don't care. Mike Evans' character was purely for the shock value and of no use.
It took too much time back and forth in timelines, made me lose interest, and I almost took a week after the Lord lost his faith.
Pacing issues with too much time spent on characters and disappointing climax.
If this is how the book ends, I would be disappointed too.
It has no explanation, no further notion, and the last 3 episodes basically have nothing to offer, rather than pushing towards the ending.
Overall:
It has great ratings, and who am I to say anything. Is the "Three-Body Problem" Binge-worthy? I guess if you consider ratings, but you will be lost easily, there are too many unexplained things and unestablished characters."
