NETFLIX'S "The Sandman" Non-spoiler Review:

The Sandman is a unique take on fantasy with intriguing world-building and an amazing cast.

Source: Netflix

THE PLOT:

Morpheus, the king of the dream world, is in search of a nightmare.

Unfortunately, he travels to our world and is captured by Roderick Burgess, an occultist who mistakenly takes Morpheus for Death.

In captivity, he loses his tools, and most of the story revolves around recovering them and handling Rose, a teenager cursed with the power to either destroy or save worlds.

Other players are at play, aiming to unite both worlds, and a rogue nightmare with threatening powers forms the story of Sandman.

It is much more complicated than that, but this is the basic idea.

THE GOOD:

I couldn't imagine any other actor than Tom Sturridge as Dream, and the casting is amazing; nothing felt out of place.

The world-building is impressive, and the escaped nightmare is a one-of-a-kind, creepy-looking concept. It's just a normal human, but you'll see when you watch.

All the other siblings are well-established with sufficient motives, and Lucifer is surprisingly well-portrayed. It is an engaging drama with enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The last episode is definitely a surprise. The Nightmare is undeniably creepy, and Boyd Holbrook definitely did justice.

David Thewlis played John Dee, a troubled man with twisted motives, perfectly blending into the narrative and definitely felt like a worthy foe to Dream.

THE BAD:

CGI isn't great always; sometimes it took me out of the series.

Definitely felt the time; it really took time to get into the story. It doesn't feel necessary to establish their siblings, but other than the storyline with Rose, isn't great, though her friend's story is a surprise.

It is a good series, may be true to the source material, and has amazing concepts but doesn't feel great.

OVERALL:

Is "The Sandman" binge-worthy?

Definitely, its world-building would surprise you, with rich characters and amazing performances that will keep you engaged.

However, you will feel the time at one point or another.

My rating would be ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5.
