NETFLIX'S "Lockwood and Co" Non-Spoiler Review:

"Lockwood & Co" - An Ambiguous Dive into the Supernatural Realm:

SOURCE: NETFLIX

Lockwood & Co is a peculiar series set in a world teeming with ghosts, where hunters are tethered under government supervision in the UK. While the source material appears intriguing enough to warrant adaptation into a series, my post-viewing sentiments suggest a struggle to meet anticipated standards.

THE PLOT:

Established to offer services in hunting the haunted, Lockwood & Co hires Lucy as their listener. As their lives take unexpected turns amid a murder investigation and the pursuit of a relic, their journey unravels the origins of the paranormal outbreak, encapsulating the rudimentary plot of Lockwood & Co. Regrettably, the execution fails to fully capture the essence.

The writing lacks the necessary vivacity, falling short of the crispness that could have elevated the narrative. Characters, regrettably, remain underdeveloped, preventing a meaningful connection with the audience.

THE GOOD:

It retains a watchable quality, taking a unique concept and bringing it to life without entangling itself in unnecessary complexities. The audience can easily navigate the rules and occupations within this supernatural world. Noteworthy is Lucy's emotional motivation at the beginning, though it unfortunately dwindles after the initial impact.

THE BAD:

Whether attributable to deficient writing or subpar execution, the series falters in its attempt to straddle horror and suspense thriller genres. Lacking a cohesive plan, the murder investigation and the pursuit of the mirror fail to engross the viewer.

Lockwood's character proves to be a constant source of problems, infiltrating locations without a plan and jeopardizing lives without thoughtful consideration. The lack of an engaging backstory or depth renders him an unwatchable protagonist, whose egotism and self-centered actions risk the lives of those around him.

OVERALL:

Is Lockwood & Co worth a binge? It can be, serving as a source of entertainment with a semblance of forward momentum. While it may not bore, it struggles to rise above mediocrity.

You could invest your time in watching it without succumbing to boredom, yet it remains an average series at best.
